Well, well, well dribblers it’s been
over a year but its back, back after popular demand... The Multiple Choice email!
THE BACKGROUND
Drew’s
dad was born on a tiny island south of the Peloponnese coast called Kythera. Dad has been back to the island 3 times since
he left for oz at teh age of 9 with my uncle.
In 1977, with my mum as part of their honeymoon.
1995
Again with my mum and this time yours truly as well (than 14)
Than back again in 2002 to build a 2-bedroom town
house at his home village of Mitata.
After hearing dad crap on for days, weeks, months on end, about the
house being resurrected from rubble and built in 4 months I thought in 2003 Id better check out this so called "house"
Last
year I arrived in August (peak season) in time for the Mitata Wine Festival and at the same time as my uncle and aunty. As
wit h1995 I was shown around the island, I was introduced to people I don’t know and who somewhere down the line are
related to me. So by this stage I pretty much knew majority of the island and what to expect.
Now when the
Prineas family join forces the unexpected is always expected!
In 2004 Drew came into the Kytherian fixture on
the back of 4 and a half strenuous months backpacking in Scandi, the Baltics and Balkins. Before drew left oz way back in
April he told his dad and sister to organise a date and I'd be there. September was the month chosen as teh island was on
the verge of hibernation for the winter.
This meant relaxation in the eyes of Drew, being my sisters first
time on the island that was never going to happen. The 19-day ordeal was spiced up in teh last 5 days with the arrival of
Eleni's boyfriend David in which the village had wedding bells in their eyes as a lead up. David also joined the trio in Athens
for a day and joined us on a 5-day tour around mainland Greece.
.... So to keep with DDS' Greek tradition....

1) I arrived in
Greece via a ferry from Albania. I called a few days later saying I’m staying at teh Pink Palace Corfu. What was dads
first comment to Eleni once he heard where I was staying
a) "Oh thank God Drew made it out of Albania safely!"
b) "Oh no don’t tell me he’s funny, if he’s queer I don’t think I could go on!"
ANSWER
- b - Can you believe it! I made a drunk call around this time last year saying "I’m not gay" but it seems that wasn’t
convincing enough!!
2) At the Pink Palace teh final night was Toga Night did Drew?
a) Took his
toga off and walked around proudly naked for all to see!

ANSWER - Proudly b,,, and all this whilst on the dance floor.... almost a month on and
its still stuffed.
3) Drew's plans were to surprise his dad and sister at teh Athens airport by saying he’s
catching the 8th flight but instead he'll secretly book the 6th with them. Where was the surprise??

and they were late. I saw them in a hurry at security so I seized the opportunity when they handed in their tickets at teh
booth.

ANSWER - d ?? The deal was that each month Dad’d pay off Drew’s card and when
I get back Ill fix him up. It was agreed on, a done deal. Turns out that Dad has only payed teh Internet bill every month,,
not teh rest?? Meaning interest,, meaning $600 done the drain!!! c) Well that was 4th or 5th b) We just wont talk about and

5) Drew made sure he looked as pathetic as possible what did he

much disgusted myself and everyone including my great aunties who in Greek started calling me a girl!!

ANSWER - A Up on the Roof - The house has a flat roof and I like
to sit up there. A quiet spot, sun setting over teh hills, valley landscape ahead. Problem is, is that every time I went up
a visitor would come or the weather was bad... So,,, someone would come,,, and Id start singing the words to the Neil Diamond
gem..
"When this old world starts getting you down

Id pause,,,pause,,knowing Ive got Eleni's attention,,, wait,,,, hold,,,,,,,,hold than when the timings right Id continue,,
"I get away!" Other words include
"Up on the roof is peaceful as can be!" and an enthusiastic "LOOK AT THOSE
STARS!!" suppose you have to be there.
9) Its time to take a break from the multiple-choice email for a while.

For teh 2nd time this trip dad told off a restaurant owner what was it for?
a) We went to a Chinese restaurant
and they served us cat

12) After almost falling
asleep during the service (church to me is boring, but when you factor in not knowing the language its virtually intolerable).
What happened at teh end of the service?
a) Drew yet again tripped over his feet whilst attempting to receive
a piece of bread from the priest instead of taking one piece he knocked the whole bowl out of the priests hand meaning no
bread for the rest of teh congregation.
b) Dad finds a Greek to tell off
c) Eleni on her way out
gets stung by a bee causing huge panic from the predominately older crowd. Everyone’s concerned, everyone’s putting
there 2 cents worth in, on how to take the sting away,,,, causing Drew to laugh in hysterics.
ANSWER - Although
all are believable C's the answer, although an hour later I got mine,,, stung on the toe. But the solution is to find a fig
tree and put fig tree sap on it. It goes away and you can hardly feel a thing.
13) Eleni’s soon to
be fiancée David arrived 2 weeks into the 19-day ordeal. What did the Prineas clan do to welcome the soon to be new addition
to the family?
a) When David arrived, we deliberately waited in teh departure lounge instead of the arrivals,
making Dave think he caught the plane to the wrong island or we forgot.
b) On the way from the airport to the
village we spoke in gibberish Greek and used occasional uses of David's name followed by laughs to make him feel awkward.
c) Had big signs saying "Welcome to Mitata DAVID MOLDEN!" at the entrance of Mitata and photos of David plastered
around the village on walls, wrapped around telegraph poles followed by the whole village wearing away both David’s
cheekbones in welcome kisses

house got him to come straight over. They brought out the Christening home kit from teh drawer. The ceremony began with the
whole village there (now 4) after he drank holly water, he was blessed and a feast for Eleni’s special guest was put

c) At one of the monasteries the Priest said to David "So you will be converting to Greek Orthodox when you
get married?!!"

So there you have it another Greek adventure complete. Eleni
and David will be joining me in a week’s time for a HUGE 72 hour drinking session in London (ok over exaggerated.)
