The Parramatta Rd Pub Crawl - Sydney

The Parramatta Rd Pub Crawl was my farewell from Sydney prior to the start of the Journey Pt3. It's tough stuff not helped by the 30 degree plus conditions. This was the invitation and Itinerary back in October '06.

It was talked about while sober.

It was expanded on, whilst drunk.

Now, it has arrived!

The Parramatta Road Pub Crawl!

19 pubs around 20kms, a potential 8.075 Litres of beer.

Who needs veins to attempt to kill themselves when you’ve got the artery of Sydney, The lifeblood of Australia during those early expansion years of settlement. The road is now home to peak hour traffic clogging up Sydney’s major artillery road to God’s Country…

Parramatta Road!

Is this a suicide mission?

There is going to be a lot of hurt this Saturday night kicking off at 3:05pm at the now closed strip joint – The Vauxhall Inn - On the last corner of Parramatta Rd (Parramatta end).

All are welcome and if you know people who are up for (this possible once in a lifetime) opportunity than bring them along too.

These are the rules:

  • When you order you ask for a Resches (the pride of Sydney beer). If that fails than anything Tooheys, none of that international or interstate crap. This is a celebration of the life and times as a Sydneysider.
  • Dress – Smart casual – Long Pants, best to go a collared shirt and no sport shoes, sandals or thongs.
  • Agree on a pact – Promise that if one bloke is refused to be served or let in, we all go in, finish our drink and never… I mean ever drink at that establishment again.

Price – approx. $70 - 75 (Drink only)

Food – Pub grub or later in the evening a Kebab shop Parra Rd is lined with aplenty.

Also if you all could find some lifts for the first 3 pubs. It’ll speed things up as taxis are needed early on.

I have attached the Itinerary and map.

Ok the map is not “Interactive” in fact its crap but it does the job.

The Itinerary provides assistance of how to get to the next pub with landmarks, which side to walk. Also CAPITAL LETTERS which tells you if you should WALK or TAXI. I figured it would be easier to read at Pub 16.

This is kind of my farewell for my 9 months or more ‘Journey’ to South/Central America/Caribbean so I would like you all to come but at the same time I understand why you would say “NO”. More on my trip later, for now lets all zone ourselves to that smooth piece of gravel and pubs that line up along Parramatta Road.

SAFETY WARNING RE: CROSSING THE ROAD:

Look to the right,
Look to the left,

Look to the right again.

When the road is clear of traffic

Stumble across the road
,
Don't fall

Stumble across the road

We’ll only accept medical evidence of liver damage as a means of quitting.

Getting run over is not an excuse.

THE ITINERARY

Kick Off 3:05pm (The old kick off time for Saturday Footy on “your ABC”.)

PUB 1 – VAUXHALL INN – (Right side)

Next to the Granville soccer fields and before the train tracks that cross Parra Rd.

PUB 2 – ROSEHILL HOTEL – (Left side)

Get into a TAXI

Tucked away before the Domain department store and Silverwater Road. Don’t pay taxi. Say to him “Can you wait here for a moment I just need to fetch a mate.” That mate is a schooner which you will skull. Once finished run to the cab and you’re off to the 4th pub.

PUB 3 – THE MELTON – (Left side)

Best to look for THE WENTWORTH (Pub 5) its opposite Pub 4 near Flemington Markets.

PUB 4 – PADDYS BOUTIQUE BREWERY – (Right side)

Opposite PADDYS

PUB 5 – THE WENTWORTH HOTEL - (Left side)

Nice place to get some grub. The best out of the ‘Westie’ pubs on Parra Rd.

WALKING distance from the Wentworth. Before the M4 Exit.

Long WALK but just before Concorde Oval.

WALK

The BIG Tester coming up! Can you hold your drink? This pub will test ya. Can you get into?:

PUB 12 – NORTONS ON NORTONS – (Left Side)

The classiest on Parra Rd. 11 beers into it. It’s also the 1st stop at the hardest part of the night. 3 pubs in 200m. This is where the lactic Acid builds and the 2nd wind HAS to come in!

WALK

PUB 13 – CLARENCE HOTEL (Right side)

At the set of light on the corner

WALK Basically opposite CLARENCE

First of 2 in a row before the home straight.

WALK Just a bit further up from HAMPSHIRE

PUB 18 - HEADQUARTERS HOTEL – (Left side)

From the outside it looks like the shittest pub on Parra Rd. Skull it and sprint up the final hill and roll/stumble/whatever. The LANDSDOWNE HOTEL will arrive in blurred vision.

RUN

PUB 19 – LANDSDOWNE HOTEL – (Right side) @ Broadway

Planned time of arrival is midnight but the pub is still open till 3am. 19 pubs, 18 schooners! Have a beer! You deserve it!

Vomiting Facilities. Obviously the toilets at the Lansdowne but they also have the alley down the side and across the road near Sydney Uni. Plenty of grass and gardens to help fertilize.
